During a visit or video call, Karisa will
get to know the history of mom & baby
check baby for oral restrictions such as tongue tie and lip tie
weigh the baby before and after a feed if at a home visit
address how to increase and/or maintain milk supply
assess baby at the breast
work with mom & baby to achieve comfortable latch and positioning
discuss management of feeding and active problem-solving
help with setting up and using a breast pump properly, including sizing mom for correct flange size if necessary
develop a customized plan to guide you through the next few days or weeks
help you feel more secure by providing practical tools and non-judgmental support

ABOUT ME
I am a mother of 3 boys and a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC). My goal is to support women as they breastfeed their babies because of the tremendous benefits of nursing for both mama and baby, and also because much of our generational wisdom about how to care for our children and ourselves has been lost in the shuffle of modern society. I have 7 years of breastfeeding experience (and counting…).
My background is eclectic which enables me to approach challenges with my clients from a variety of angles. I am a reiki practitioner and a wedding officiant, so I am practiced at listening to clients and guiding them through emotional peaks and valleys. I am also a professional actress, screenwriter and filmmaker by training and trade, so I have a deep respect for the stories we tell - about ourselves, about what is possible, and about who we are. I’d love to help you take the reins of your story of motherhood.

If you're new to breastfeeding or even if you're running into new challenges with your second, third, fourth (or beyond!) baby, it can help to have a Certified Lactation Counselor come check things out. We look at things like baby's latch, baby's weight, and baby's behavior at the breast to get an accurate picture of what's going on so we can support your breastfeeding goals. -
Educating (Hopefully!) Everyone
Sharing a Wealth of Information
Did you know that breast size has nothing to do with how much milk a woman makes? Did you know that mothers who breastfeed have reduced risk of cancer and diabetes? Elevation Mothering provides classes, resources, and information to promote and support breastfeeding in Archuleta County, The Four Corners area and beyond.
